The cares of life can often leave us feeling overwhelmed. Whether it’s finding solutions to problems, a health issue, or trying to experience peace during difficult times.
If this sounds familiar, then the Lord Jesus has extended a special invitation for you to enter into His rest!
He says to us in Matthew 11:28-29
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Ever wondered what a yoke is? It’s a wooden frame placed over the necks of two animals (of similar strength) to join them in order to pull a load together. Yoke also means to be submitted to someone or to be under the control of something. In Biblical examples, we can see where some yokes connote oppression and negative circumstances (Isaiah 58:6; 2 Chronicles 10:9-11).
However, being yoked to Christ brings rest to our souls as a benefit of His kingdom ruling in our lives. As we follow and serve Him, He bears the heavy weight of our burdens by supernaturally invading our world to bring solution, wisdom and peace. Allowing us to find rest from oppression.
As children of God, we are meant to live in a constant state of rest (1 Peter 5:7). This is because Christ’s finished work on the cross has broken the curse of sin and death over us (Colossians 2:14). Therefore, satan’s legal right to inflict sickness, poverty, fear etc. on us has been destroyed (Colossians 1:13-14; 1 John 3:8).
Phillipians 3:20 asserts that, “…our citizenship is in heaven.” Though we are in the world physically, we are citizens of an invisible, spiritual government known as the Kingdom of God. If citizens, then we are beneficiaries of its power, influence, protection and uncommon peace that invades the earth realm when we pray.
Being yoked / joined in covenant with Christ has granted us access to this supernatural government 24/7’s by the presence of the Holy Spirit dwelling in us! (Luke 17:21; John 14:16; Romans 8:11)
Let us find rest by casting every care on Jesus (1 Peter 5:7).
